Steak for Dinner
In the field the Marines eat MREs -- if they have time. Often meals are nothing more than an energy bar and or some trail mix. Back at our little base camp there are two hot meals a day. Tray rations. The entrees are prepared in some food factory somewhere and reheated. Usually there is canned fruit and canned vegetables. But last night we had real meat, steak kabobs grilled over real charcoal. There were two other miracles with that meal: cold soda pop and fresh jelly donuts. Along with canned fruit cocktail and canned corn. I hadn't realized what a strange menu that was until I typed it just now. But steak and jelly donuts? What can I say? I wolfed it all down.
