It Takes Balls



Capt. Michael Linhares, a Marine Corps helicopter pilot, works as the air operations officer at the combat outpost in Naw Zad, Afghanistan. He also coaches Afghan kids in soccer -- and other life lessons.

  1. Very nice story...but I was thinking..."watch out for that barbed wire!", which is pretty silly, knowing the world they live in. Good for the Capt. I hope he enjoyed that as much as they did.

  2. I am glad, Captain Michael Linhares, that your dad and your mom suggested at a teacher retirement party that I view this . I can certainly see why they are so proud of what you are doing, your dad being a former leader of students and now substitute teacher, and your mother still teaching. Great to get the kids off the streets and into something in which they can be kids, play and realize that they had to earn the privilege of having you as their coach. Inspirational!
